Imani’s Skin
writer / director / art director
Imani’s Skin, is a 5 minute animated short film about a dark skinned girl named Imani and her journey to love her skin. It’s Imani’s first day of school but she’s in for a rude awakening when she isn’t accepted by her peers on account of her skin color. After grappling with her own insecurities, Imani must learn to find the beauty in her brown.
This story was inspired by my own insecurities as a dark skinned girl growing up. I created this story to empower others to see the beauty in themselves.
Look Past
responsible for all production
In this rotoscoped short, a man must try to escape his fate of getting hit by a train. His crippling panic however prevents him from seeing his potential escape.
With this film I wanted to explore how people fixate on their fears to the point of handicap. Nelson’s obsession with looking at the train prevented him from seeing that he could just roll off of the tracks. My goal was to show people that if they can just look forward in times of peril, then they could find the solution to their situation and dodge the problem.
